UC Berkeley's Danceworx presents Danceworx Spring Showcase Three For Gee

Danceworx is a student run organization at UC Berkeley that dances in jazz and hip hop styles of dance. Our pieces are student choreographed, and we also have pieces this semester from leading hip hop choreographers such as Darnell Carroll and Jabbawockeez. There is a tribute hip hop piece to Gary Kendall, a recently passed member of Jabbawockeez. Also, $1 from every ticket sale will go to the IRC to raise genocide awareness and aid Darfur refugees. Danceworx is proud to showcase the imense talent of our dancers and to bring a lot of energy to the show!

Korean-American Student Association of UC Berkeley presents
Korean-American Annual Culture Show

For a taste of a unique blend of Korean traditional culture and modern Korean-American customs, join us for the KASA Cultural Show! Hosted and organized by the Korean-American Student Association of UC Berkeley, the Culture Show is produced annually to showcase the talents of Korean-Americans in the Bay Area. This is the one time of year in which the typically separate branches of Korean culture, such as Taek-won-do, drama, musical entertainment, traditional drumming and comedy are brought together to deliver a unifying and inspiring show.

Montessori Family School in collaboration with the Marin Shakespeare Co. presents Aesop's Hop

Welcome to the mythical Forest of Fables, home of the Tortoise and the Hare, the Ants and the Grasshopper, the Lion and the Mice, and many others. This realm is also the home of Aesop, the friendly storyteller of Ancient Greece. The animals and two immortal Muses prepare for Aesop's surprise birthday party until they realize that they have no music. A multitude of Aesop's fables collide with one another as the animals try to solve the problem. The result is a mixture of chaos and merriment, sure to delight audiences of all ages. Performed by the students of Montessori Family School's Upper Elementary classroom.

First Stage Children's Theater presents Indoor Outdoor Blues

The "indoor kids" and the "outdoor kids" can't seem to agree on anything - until a big problem disturbs their quiet little town. Alien insects have invaded Bloomfield! This musical play features delightful 8 - 11 year old actors and is fun-filled entertainment for the whole family. First Stage Children's Theater has been bringing Sue Walton's original plays to the Julia Morgan stage since 1986.

The [M]ovement presents [M]ovement Spring Showcases 2008

"Infinite Flavors" - Watch us Dance our Hearts Out!

Caroline Kim and Trisha Mitra founded the Movement in fall of 1999. They began with a vision of bringing together a diverse group of people sharing a passion to dance. Beginning with only 20 members, the group has expanded to over 100, introducing styles of hip-hop, jazz, and swing to the UC Berkeley campus.

Making their debut on Upper Sproul, the Movement continued to perform on Lower Sproul, cultural diversity fairs, the YWCA, and showscases at the Julia Morgan Center for the Arts and Zellerbach Playhouse. For the past three years, the Movement has successfully sold out two back to back shows. The Movement works to maintain a close, family environment that is supportive to each member.

Reawaken your senses to the thunderous sounds of the taiko drum. Cal Raijin Taiko brings a modern style of the traditional Japanese drumming to the stage with an injection of explosive energy and youthful spirit. The ensemble's original musical works feature choreography and rhythms that will draw your own heart's pulse into the addictive flow of the BASE BEAT.

The Emperor's New Clothes a Musical by Ahrens and Flaherty

This delightful musical from the team that created Ragtime and Seussical re-tells the time-honored tale of a king who gets into trouble trying to be great. In this version, 14-year-old Marcus is about to become the next Emperor, but he hasn't finished reading his "How to be an Emperor" guide. Already, the townspeople need his help. What's a fellow to do? In comes the Swindler, arguing that clothes make the manÑand he has just the outfit. Will someone call the Swindler's bluff, or will Marcus show up in front of the whole town in his underwear?

Gamelan Sekar Jaya presents Music and Dance of Bali, with special guests

Gamelan Sekar Jaya returns to one of its favorite Berkeley stages with a unique program, including pieces ranging from traditional dances to new hybrid gamelan forms. This special concert will feature the driving rhythms and interlocking melodies of three Balinese gamelan ensembles - orchestras of bronze percussion, gongs, drums and flutesÑaccompanying the delicate movements of Balinese dance. The group will be led by two of Bali's most renowned musicians, I Dewa Ketut Alit Adnayna and I Dewa Putu Berata from Bali's renowned group Cudamani. The concert will open with a special treat: an appearance by fellow musical adventurers from the world music ensemble Gamelan X. They have taken gamelan in a new direction, cross-fertilizing Balinese music with other traditions ranging from the Balkans to electronica.

The country bumpkin loves the village beauty. She possesses a bit of money, education and sophistication, whose lack he laments, feeling that it creates an impassable gulf. His redeeming quality of complete and untutored honesty makes him both victim of charlatanry and ultimate victor in amore. A patent-oil salesman and a narcissistic recruitment officer breeze into town to fill out the cast of hilariously colorful characters.

The beauty of this favorite opera lies in the balance between na•vete and depth in its sunny narration of requited love Ð all of which will come to life on the intimacy of the small stage.

Oakland Hebrew Day School presents The Music Man Jr.

The Music Man is an American musical classic, following fast-talking traveling salesman Harold Hill and his visit to River City, Iowa where he meets and falls in love with the willful, spinster librarian, Marian Paroo. With his word-a-second style, "Professor" Harold Hill convinces the town to adopt his revolutionary music program, "The Think System", or face the moral decline of the youngsters of River City. Chaos ensues as Hill's credentials are questioned and he is forced to prove himself to the citizens of River City.

Little Women

Little Women traces the adventures of four sisters. The Civil War is underway and money is tight, but the girls learn to be resourceful, knowing they can never be poor as long as they have each other. Pretty Meg, the oldest, wonders if she will ever find love. Tomboy Jo struggles to balance her need for independence with her duty to her family. Shy Beth doesn't realize how much her musical gifts mean to others, and little Amy learns that she must think less about herself and more about her family. Their neighbors step in to help when events take a turn for the worse. Ages 6 and up.

San Francisco Theater Project presents
Aftermath of War: in their own words

Aftermath of War: in their own words was conceived and directed by John Wilk, Instructor and Director in the Theatre Department of City College of San Francisco. Wilk gathered acting students who were interested in the Iraq war and individuals involved in the military. They began a four month research project that included reading innumerable blogs, books, articles and eventually interviews done by the group. Out of this research came a powerful script staged as a series of monologues and dramatazations in a docudrama format including projections and original music by Brian Fergus.
