JYOTI ROUT Classsical Indian Dance
"Buddha: The Path of Light"

Set in the medieval courts of India, Buddha, The Path of Light chronicles Prince Siddhartha's journey to fulfill his destiny as a great spiritual teacher. His passion for truth and his struggle to overcome his senses come alive through the dramatic and powerful medium of Odissi dance with its vibrant costumes and gestural nuance.

An ancient, breathtakingly beautiful form of sacred dance, Odissi was originally developed in the temple of Jagannath on the eastern coast of India as a form of worship and meditation. Highly stylized in nature, it utilizes powerful energetic footwork juxtaposed with fluid feminine movements.

The performance will showcase the dancing and choreography of Jyoti Kala Mandir and founder and director Jyoti Rout. Originally from Orissa, India, Jyoti Rout came to America nine years ago to spread the message of peace through dance as a spiritual practice. She has since performed extensively in the Bay area and her dancing has been called "a rich visual treat" "superb" and an "expression of devotion".

SCOTT CAPURRO: Stand up Comic
(Contains Adult Content)

FRIDAY SHOW NEARLY SOLD OUT
SATURDAY SHOW JUST ADDED
Call CBON 925.798.1300 for the latest information.

It's Friday night in Berkeley. What do you wanna do? I dunno, what do you wanna do? How about stopping by the Julia Morgan Theatre for Scott Capurro's incomparable stand-up comedy for adults? Great idea! "This is stand-up in the very best possible sense- deadpan, ever-alert and hilarious," according to the SF Weekly. Scott Capurro, a comic who's been burning bridges in the Bay Area for 10 years, finally brings his show to Berkeley. Frantic, firey and homoneurotic, Capurro shreds apart common decency and hopes to bring new meaning to the word "suicidal." Not for the faint of heart, or anyone under the age of 18.
