meaning from plays and other dramatic and poetic texts. Delve
into scene work, explore monologues and continue to work on acting
technique. (For students who have attended JMCA Performing Arts

This class is a singing workout,
focusing on both vocal technique and performance skills. Learn
the nuts-and-bolts of a complete vocal warm-up, strong breathing
and voice building exercises and how to effectively deliver a
song. Discover how to use the singing voice as an acting tool
and leave with a song ready for auditions. (For beginning and
intermediate students.)

The keys to self-confidence on
stage and off lie in the body, the voice and the creative imagination,

as basic scene study, character development and improvisation.

A more in-depth exploration of
character development, scene study as well as physical and vocal
technique for greater freedom on stage. Learn techniques developed
by Meisner, Grotowski and Linklater to build your performance
skills and broaden your creative expression.

All classes end in an Open Studio
to which family and friends are invited.
Eligibility: Students ages 4-17. No performance experience
necessary.
Particulars: Students must arrive ON TIME for class
and be picked up directly after class. Wear clothes you can move
in. Parents fill out & return emergency medical & liability
info.

form. Limited funds available. Requests are processed on a first-come,
first-serve basis.

Tuesday Strand: 10 weeks beginning
Sep. 25
Creative Drama and Visual Arts
(4-5 yrs)
9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Integrating basic concepts of theatre with visual arts, children
will use their bodies and voices to create characters, settings
and stories. Through hands-on visual arts activities - painting,
mask-making, papier mache, mural design and sculptural constructions
for use in theatrical environments - the students create a world
that will build artistic and problem-solving skills and celebrate
creative risk-taking.
Thursday Strand: 10 weeks
beginning Sep. 27
Creative Dance and Music (4-5
yrs)
9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Learning to move with self-confidence through interesting and
fun movement skills and concepts, children strengthen their bodies
and develop interpersonal skills by building dances with others.
With self-created instruments, stories and songs, the students
use movement and rhythm to hone skills and express independent
creative ideas.
Note: Children may enroll
in either one or both strands.
Please send your child each day with:
· A healthy snack for the morning play break (including
juice or milk)
· Bottled water
· Close-toed shoes
· Clothing they can move in easily
Children must arrive on time for class and be picked up directly
after class. Late pick-up fees will be assessed.
Cost
Tuesday Strand:
$300 for the 10 week session, plus $25 one time materials fee
Thursday Strand:
$300 for the 10 week session, plus $25 one time materials fee
Both strands:
$540 for the 10 weeks, plus $35 one time materials fee
Special Needs
The level of group process, social interaction and independent
decision-making in our programs is high and may be inappropriate
for some special needs children. Please call for an evaluative
discussion.

Kaleidoscope Faculty
Bios
Beth Donohue is an actor, musician and teaching artist
who has worked in the Bay Area for over ten years. She is a member
of the award-winning Shotgun Players in Berkeley and has also
been on stage with Aurora Theatre Company, Center Rep, Kaliyuga
Arts, Word for Word and Berkeley Rep. A popular Kaleidoscope
teacher in our summer and holiday camps and afterschool programs,
Beth also sings and plays viola.
Kimberly Wilday is an actor, singer and dancer who has
worked in New York, Los Angeles and the Bay Area. She graduated
from the Tisch School of the Arts at NYU and has performed in
numerous shows including starring in 42nd Street at PCLO and
Mack and Mabel with LA's Reprise! Broadway's Best. Kimberly is
in her second year of teaching with the Julia Morgan Center for
the Arts Kaleidoscope program.
Milissa Carey is a frequent performer with Theatre
Works, Center Repertory Theatre of Walnut Creek, The Willows
Theatre Company, Foothill Theatre Company, Peninsula Civic Light
Opera, 42nd Street Moon, A.C.T. and others. Her training includes
a Bachelor of Music in Voice from the San Francisco Conservatory
of Music, a Master's of Music in Vocal Performance from U.S.C.
and a Certificate of Acting from A.C.T.
Kimberly and Beth are trained
in the Lincoln Center Institute for Arts in Education model of
arts-based learning and are working with the Julia Morgan Center
to bring this model to Bay Area schools in the coming school
year.

Mission
Our mission at the Julia Morgan Center for the Arts is to engage
the artist within each of us and apply the principles of aesthetic
education. In the Kaleidoscope programs children and teens are
taught by professional teaching artists who incorporate artistic
training with fun and rigorous exercises and creative experiences.
